This was a fun industry video project that Tribe was called upon to turn around in record time. Martin Scorsese was honored by the Friars Club for its highest honor, the Entertainment Icon Award. The show’s producer, Tom Werts, was in a bind, and called Tribe to clean up some raw footage, create an animated logo, and line up pre-taped greetings (shot in a wide array of formats and quality), from Margot Robbie, Jodie Foster, Tom Cruise, Cate Blanchett, Peter Gabriel, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood.
From Tom Werts:
I produced the recent Friars Club presentation of the Entertainment Icon Award to Martin Scorcese. We had very little planning time for the content of the show, because we weren’t sure until the last minute who was coming to honor him.
We eventually had Ellen Burstyn, Leonardo DeCaprio, Ben Kingsley, Robert DeNiro, Olivia Wilde and many other actors from his films. We were pulling clips from his best films as introductions to speakers, when, at the last minute, word came that Mr. Scorcese was picking his own clips and would send them over. He also said that he was donating a copy of the entire program to the American Film Institute.
Here’s where Tribe came in. The Friars Club decided that its logo needed work. This was Sunday night. The event was Wednesday night. We needed a new logo and the clips had to be cleaned up properly to show during the presentation. Additionally, there were video greetings from those who could not attend, and, they had to be cleaned up.
I know of only one man who could help (and, I’m not exaggerating!): Michael Chomet.
Somehow Michael and his video production team at Tribe cleaned up the footage, attached openings and closings, put everything in order and gave the Friars Club a new animated logo—in 24 hours. Incredible!
The Friars Club will always be grateful to Michael and Tribe Pictures. No one else on the planet could have done what Tribe did. I mean it.
We’re often called upon to do small video projects that merit little mention. We love doing this kind of work to help out our friends. In this case, taking even a small part in honoring Martin Scorsese, one of our heroes, is a great honor and pleasure.
