How will you be remembered?

The concept of resume values vs. eulogy values comes from David Brooks’ 2015 book, The Road to Character. If you’re like me, perhaps you contemplate your career in terms of “résumé values”– thinking of my client list, the award-winning corporate videos I’ve created, the experience of running a production agency for over 30 years. In other words, perceived value in the contemporary workforce. These are the things society tends to value.

Eulogy values, on the other hand, are things other people value about you. They are how you will be remembered. What will I be remembered for? Will it be for helping to launch the careers of hundreds of filmmakers? Will it be for being a good father? Will it be as the leader of an organization with strong values and beliefs? I hope so.
These two virtues can be combined in the work place, through companies that prioritize innovation and accomplishment, while engaging employees on a personal, human level. That identity can be communicated through inspirational video messaging, corporate culture videos, and recruitment videos that underscore company virtues.

Before these videos can be created, your company has to embody its values. What are your “eulogy values” and are you living them?
